SURFACE: ABOVE AND BELOW

This extensive two-day workshop will explore traditional and non-traditional surfaces for functional and sculptural work. A plethora of pre- and post-firing techniques will be covered. A myriad of ways to use slips, under-glazes, glaze and glass in conventional and experimental ways will be shown.  Sgraffito, mishima, mono-printing, stenciling, carving, wax resist and other possibilities shall be explored. The creation and use of stamps will be covered.
Also demonstrated will be the use of 2-D art materials; acrylic paint, colored pencils, water-color, and metallic leaf for non-food-use items.

Students will be making 4 inch tiles to practice and experiment each technique, therefore creating a take home sketch for reference. Students should also bring bisque-ware to try some of the post-firing techniques.
Students will gain an arsenal of ideas and techniques to enhance their work with.  Open to all levels of artists with curious minds.

Students should come prepared with several literary possibilities!
